In ISA 2000 we used to use Server Publishing Rules instead of Web Publishing rules because ISA mangled the web server logs so that most hits were not recorded correctly. It worked well... is this still a viable solution to this problem? Or is the problem gone in ISA 2004? I realize that using this scenario, we don't get the caching benefits (and problems) associated with the web publishing rule.

Thanks,
Bert Audette

Hi Bert,

Actually, ISA didn't do anything to the logs that any proxy firewall wouldn't do. If the pages are retrived from cache, then why would the firewall forward the connection to the published Web server? That's why you should analyze the Web proxy log for the best information.

However, you can use the same method with the 2004 ISA firewall.

HTH,
Tom
