Hi,
Sorry for the length of this message
Can I please get clarification on "publishing web sites" on ISA 2004.
It seems the correct way is to use host header names and point to the same IP address as referenced in the following articles:
How to configure Web publishing rules to host multiple Web sites with host headers in ISA Server
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;838252
and
HOW TO: Use Host Header Names to Configure Multiple Web Sites in Internet Information Services 6.0
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324287
Can I confirm this is the correct way - so users might go.
Example:
URL from user: Translates to: Host Header www.company1.com 144.172.1.5 www.company1.com www.company2.com 144.172.1.5 www.company2.com
My web server is called "web.acme.local" - (a seperate Windows 2003 IIS Server).
Questions:
1. Is this the correct way to achieve this multiple web sites published by ISA on the one web server? 2. Given the above example how would I fill out "New Web Publishing Wizard"
Computer name or IP Address: web.acme.local Forward the original host header of the actual one (specified above)? - Which option for this one? Path: Do I leave this blank ? So I am not sure what I need to fill in to create it for the above configurations?
3. Or is Virtual directories or different IP ports the way to go? If so please can I have a starting point for this. Thanks,
Ward.

Hi Ward,
I never use host headers for Web publishing, I bind a separate IP address to each site. Since private addresses are very reasonably priced, I don't see any reason to use host headers. They add complexity and not much else.

Tom,
Thanks for your reply.
Is there a technical disadvantage to using host headers?
Also - since you don't use host headers please clarify how you would have a seperate ip address how would you make this work?
Assuming that if you have two network cards in your ISA server (one internal the other external). You would do the following one the external network card configure multiple IP addresses and have a seperate web listner for each is this correct?
Thanks,
Ward
