I've just installed ISA 2006 in dev with the puspose of publishing a website from an IIS server using Forms Based Authentication....  no problems with this part...  works a treat.

However, I noticed that forms based authentication can be configured to allow users to change their passwords.  Seemed straight forward enough - I configured the options and now I get the option on the FBA screen "I want to change my password after logging on" - looking good so far.  However, when I use the form to change my password I get as far as the 'old password, new password, confirm new password' form, but as soon as I click the 'change password' I recieve the error "An error occured while trying to change the password.  Please contact technical support for your organisation" with a continue button.  Pressing the continue button takes me to the published web, but my password hasn't been changed....   Is there something I am missing (obviously there is!!).

The ISA server is a member of the internal domain, has 2 NICs - 1 interface on the inside network, the other on the 'internet' (dev). I'm connecting from a laptop via a crossover on the 'internet'....

Any suggestions greatfully recieved!

We have a Prod ISA2004 server publishing OWA using FBA also - this does seem to work (for the change password)...  It also prompts to change password when the user account connecting has 'password must be changed upon next logon' - will this same functionality work with ISA 2006 assuming I can get the above to work...?

Are you using SSL to SSL bridging? I *believe* that the connection must be SSL in order to protect the password.

HTH,
Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your response.  I reconfigured to use SSL to SSL bridging (I was using SSL -> HTTP bridging). Still the same error I'm afraid....

I'm using Windows (Active Directory) authentication as the authentication validation method within the listener I have setup....   I've since read that it only works with Windows (LDAP) - do you know if this is the case??  I'd have thought it would work with any...

Just trying to understand the authentication process - is it the ISA that is authenticating or is it the server I am publishing?

ANy help greatfully recieved!

Thanks
-Darren

Hi Darren,

Are you sure about that? I know it works with LDAP , but it should work with integrated Windows authentication too. I know I got it to work with ISA 2004 by publishing the /passwordchange directory. I haven't tested it yet with Integrated auth though -- I need to give that a try.

Tom
