Hi,

we are publishing web sites which need to be robust against an ISP failure.
The second ISP we have got sold us a solution for balancing the inbound traffic using a "DNS trick" (not a simple round robin) made with specialized hardware appliances (Radware Linkproof).

The solution seems interesting and, I swear, it's been working for more than hour before failing for unknown reasons and the technicians haven't still managed it out.

The first idea I have in mind is to throw the appliances against their techs and then use a simple trick: make the currently kept as "cold backup" ISA server to be an active server with the "internet" leg on the second ISP and using Round Robin DNS to balance traffic between my 2 ISAs (and ISPs).
Fault tolerance would consist in the fact that, changing the ISAs configuration and modifying DNS, we would be able to recover from one ISP failure or an ISA crash with some manual job and be online again in half an hour.

Not the best, but if mices will bite one Optical Fiber we will not be killed because of one day long web site down.

What do you think about this? Anyone made out similar solutions? Is there a "magic wand" software/appliance that could help us?

Thanks

Hi Tinto,

Sounds like the Radware boxes were using the DNS trick that RainConnect used to use?

Tom
