Hello, Have perimeter network setup on my ISA server (2004). Internal clients/local host can reach my web site just fine, using IP or FQDN. External clients are getting a network login screen, using FQDN or IP? When I access externally and try to login as administrator, it does not let me. I just keep getting the network login screen. Unable to find where to resolve this in ISA Server? Help appreciated. Thanks, Mike

This is just a hunch... Open up your web publishing rule for this site and select the Listener tab. On this page, click the Properties button. Then, select the Preferences tab, and then click the Authentication button. On this window, do you have the Require all users to authenticate box checked? If so, uncheck it. Hope that helps.

Hi John, I checked the Properties on the Listener on my Web Server Publishing Rule. I do have the Require all users to authenticate box unchecked, so that's apparently not the issue. I also noted that for some reason I had IIS loaded on the isa server too, so I got rid of that, as well as the secondary DNS configuration I had on it. It's now running nothing but isa server alone. I can still access web site fine from my internal clients, but at the moment do not have access to an external client to check and see if these things I removed did any good there. I kinda doubt it, but I'll let you know. Appreciate any more helpful suggestions on this. Anyone needing any more info on my setup to offer suggestions/help just let me know. Thanks

Hi, What is the authentication method that you use for your website? Integrated authentication ? If so, might it be that the external client you are trying from is not a domain member? Can you post your publishing rule settings ? txs, Stefan

Hi Stefan, Thank you for your interest. I'm not running AD, so theres no Domain. Just a Workgroup environment. To answer your questions, here is my publishing rule details; Rule & Public Name - www.mywebsite.net Action - Allow From - Anywhere To - 172.xxx.xxx.xxx (requests appear to come from isa server computer checked) Traffic - HTTP [Listener:(name) Web [Networks: External, Internal [Port:(HTTP) 80 [Port: (HTTPS) Disabled [Authentication Methods: Integrated [Always Authenticate: No External Path - <same as internal> Internal Path - /* Bridging - "Web server" checked, "redirect request to HTTP port 80" checked Users - All Users Schedule- 24/7 No link translation If I uncheck the "integrated" authentication selection in the Listener, I get an error message stating that " if no authentication methods are selected, rules requiring authentication cannot be applied and requests will be denied!" Does that mean it won't allow the web site to be available? I'll try it anyway and see what happens. Your help appreciated. Mike

Hello Stefan, I'm sorry. I misunderstood. What do you mean by "website" Are you talking about my website setup in IIS? Or, are you talking about my website file folder?

Ok Stefan, After checking my website Properties in IIS, under the Directory Security tab, in Authentication and access control, under Authentication Methods I have the Enable anonymous access box checked, and below that, in the Authenticated access section, I have no methods/boxes what-so-ever checked. Should I?

Hi Setfan, I tried checking Integrated Authentication boxes on both the website IIS and the publishing rule listener. Tried website again from an external client this morning and still getting network logon screen and no website. No difference apparently. I flushed DNS cache, just to be sure I wasn't getting old stuff. Again I'm not at the network to check the log and see what it says. I won't be able to report the log results to you until about 9 hours from the time of this post. Maybe I ought to just uninstall ISA and then reinstall, and same thing with web server IIS. Maybe just starting from scratch again will reset the program defaults and fix this problem?

Hi Stefan, Sorry to take so long. Ok, I have the ISA Logging info. There's a lot to it. What items are you wanting to know?

Hi Stefan and John, Well I finally figured out what was wrong. First I did check the ISA logging and saw that I was getting "failed connections" when anyone tried to go to my website. Rule given was "Allow All Access" rule I created to allow internet access, so it really didn't make much sense to me. So, I went ahead and uninstalled ISA Server and reinstalled and started fresh. I made sure there were no other roles configured on that server, so it IS a bare bones ISA Server. I also uninstalled IIS on my web server and reinstalled and started that fresh too. After resetting everything back up and having a friend check for me, it was still coming up with the network login on external attempts to access my website. I got to thinking about a new VOIP phone service I subscribed to a while back and the little modem they sent me. I installed to my cable modem, per their directions, and just happen to wonder if that might be causing the trouble. I removed it and rebooted everthing and WHALLA! Everything worked perfectly! My friend accessed my website with no problems. So, as I had some other issues with this new VOIP service, I just cancelled their service and went back to my IP's VOIP service, which hasn't affected my operation at all. Whew! Am I glad to get that resolved! I was about tot throw the whole kit-n-kabootal out the window! I want to thank you both for your suggestions and help though. I do appreciate it! Mike
