Here's the situation. I have an SMTP server running on the ISA firewall (I know it's not advised, but it's a simple setup) and at first thought I'd just create a packet filter to allow SMTP traffic through. However, this didn't seem to let smtp traffic through. So I published the ISA server using the SMTP Server Protocol Definition. This then worked. However, there are two exceptions to this. The first, outblaze.com appears to be unable to deliver mail with this configuration and I see the following line in my IPEXTD?????.log file
2002-05-02 18:59:13 205.158.62.24 myip-witheld Tcp 25 13277 BLOCKED myip-witheld
So, why if other people on an external network can telnet to my machine on port 25 successfuly, and 2 people on different ISP's can email me, why does outblaze.com get blocked?
Second problem, and quite possible very similar. TCP port 53 is being blocked in the IPEXTD log which is the zone transfer port, but zone transfers work, at least to one internet machine I tested. So again, why do some servers seem to get blocked?
Anyone have any ideas?
Why doesn't the supplied SMTP IP Packet filter appear to work? And is using Server Publishing the best method in my configuration?
(running ISA SP1)
Any help greatly appreciated.
James

Hi James,
Did you disable socket pooling for the SMTP service?
Thanks!
Tom
