Weird Smtpp config needed - 23.Feb.2004 7:34:00 PM

Hi all,

Good work Dhr T. shinder your site solves almost all my trouble, Keep up the good work.

But i have one i can't find a solution for it.

in a Hurry some people above me had figured out that they could use there own servers for SMTP and pop. (23 in total)
And they want it this way.
One server for isa one server for exchange and a ADSL MXSTREAM (Dutch) connection. With a thomson 510v Modem.

Sounds fun but infact its a pain in the ass.
First off all the external IP addres is not visble to Isa server. only the 10.0.0.150 is "[Frown]"
No i'm not going to tweak the thomson modem because it will broke all the warrantys!

i get all the domains setup in exchange and it works fine asfar as i use the webmail they all have a own domain setup and they all connect bye Webmail.somedomain.nl

but then the smtp and the pop3.

i have tried several configs but it seems impossible to me to do this on one IP adres.
Is there a usefull way to use the webpublising rules because it looks tha they forward domain names what server publishing does not, otherwise i could route to internal host like domain1.somedomain.nl, domain2.somedomain.nl.

Is anyone have a idea how to fix this it would be great. (This is a big disadvantage in the server publishing rules in my eyes.

regards,Ethereal

Hi Ethereal,

You can publish many Web Server with a single IP address with Web Publishing Rules.

What error do you see when you try to connect from an external location?

Are they hosting their own SMTP servers? If so, you'll need an IP address for each site, unless you install an SMTP server on the ISA firewall and configure multiple remote domains to route the messages to the corect SMTP server.

Tom

HI,

Thanks for your response,

Everything is going well for all the HTTP sites. the trouble is in the authentication section with the pop and the smtp Smtp is solvable with your respons but not the POP authentication

I already tried the config with iis smtp installed on the isa machine and then route them to the exchange server. looks smtp is allright now.
But with the orher protocols i can't Authenticated, and it looks that the answers all are going to 10.0.0.150 (IP i need to connect to that alcatel thing)
I really have no idea why i can route everything normally except to exchange that is a pain in the ass.

And thats where i get stuck and probably have to tweak the modem or throw it away and buy a new one.

P.S. The alcatel 510 speedtouch isnt really RFC compliant [Frown]

If you have other suggestions, that would be nice.

Regards

Hi Ethereal,

Yes, you are correct. If you want to publish multiple POP3 servers, you must have an IP address on the external interface of the ISA firewall for each POP3 server.

Tom
