Greetings,
I'll be needing to learn ISA pretty soon at work. In them mean time I thought it would be a good idea to set up an ISA 2004(B) at home.
I have it installed on a box with two nics. One public the other private. (His name is SNOOP. Neat, huh?)
My network consists of one Cisco 678 DSL router/modem for the internet, and one Netgear 11g wireless router for the internal network. Plus a bunch of VM Servers, laptops and PC's.
A very simple network to be sure.
I'll need to publish Web, DNS, SSL, TS, and SMTP services. And I'm sure more in the near future.
This is a great site, but being a newbie of the most newbieiest of proportions, I'm suffering from information overload.
Where do I start? And how do I get started? The software is installed and ready to be configured. Any suggestions on where to start?
Thanks so much,
-Puckertoe

Hi Puckertoe,
Don't feel lost. Startup the ISA Server Management console and start messing around. It's a pretty easy interface to learn from and as far as setting up rules for Web, DNS, SSL, TS, and SMTP services, the nice wizard will walk you through! If you're stuck, browse the forum to see if anyone had the same problem(s) you're having. We're always here to help too.
Tom's books are great too!
Good luck,
Jon

Hi John,
Thanks! The book won't be done until October, because I want to get some information on the Enterprise Edition in it too.
But you have me a great idea. How about a series of beginner's guides for this site? Some like:
Beginner's Guide to Web Publishing Beginner's Guide to Server Publishing Beginner's Guide to Remote Access VPN Beginner's Guide to Site to Site VPN Beginner's Guide to Outbound Access Control Beginner's Guide to DMZ Configuration Beginner's Guide to Web Proxy Client Configuration Beginner's Guide to Firewall Client Configuration ETC....
Thanks! Tom
