Hi! I need to install an ISA server to provide firewall / proxy services from an ADSL connection. Basically I need an ADSL modem that can handle multiple public IP's, and present them to the ISA server via ethernet without introducing NAT!
Budget contraints rule out anything exotic like a nice Cisco box - I need to find a linksys equivelent that can handle the multiple IP's.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Leon.

Netgear or alcatel will work. Why can'the DSL do NAT. I have seen that config serveral times. And it works. Just make sure when the LAT is built it does not contain all the other private IP address ranges

I Don't want NAT as I need to be able to support L2TP VPN's from clients that potentially don't support NAT-T. I could be wrong, but I thought the Netgear stuff had to use NAT?

Thanks for the reply. I know that NAT cannot be turned off if the destination network is in the LAT etc.., I also know about the patch that is available for the various OS's. Point is that some of the machines that will be connecting to the VPN through L2TP WILL NOT have ths patch installed.

All I want is some pointers to which ADSL modem to buy that WILL NOT ITSELF use NAT - thus allowing all of the not patched clients to connect.

Thanks,

Leon.

Hi Leon
Take a look at this one, it is used by BT for NAT/NONAT.

papata - I have no idea what you're on about - that makes no sence to me at all. What's a 'LAT Modem'?

Cheers,

Leon.

Sorry for that ....
ISA Server use the NAT not the modem itself...
modem its just a device working with the OS ...
on the other side routers are fully working machines have their own OS and have their own functions, they can use NAT for multiple machines sharing a single Internet connection as well as the ISA Server or Internet Connection Sharing or MS Routing and Remote Access - static and Dinamic NAT,if you install the ISA 2000 you can only USE Dynamic NAT in 2004 you can use both...nothing to do with the modem unless is a router using his own Software,Flash, OS and NAT Network Address Translation is performed by a NAT router, so is a NAT device as well as the ISA Server .

read the bootom lines
If you don't want NAT--->
Cisco ADSL Routers,PIX...this is just my opinion and I AM NOT A guru not even a litle .

if this is a good router that is fine.
If you can choose not to use nat on the router even better...
I had a litle problem with a ADSL connection before - >changed about 5 diferent ADSL routers with build in modems and found that only the cisco router and internal modems can keep the conection withouth crashing...the exchange was too far and all routers except Cisco 2600 and the internal Zomm ADSL was unable to keep the conection...but this is diferent matter and the 2600 series with DSL card still expensive...

Good luck, Leo soory for the LATModem [Smile]

Thanks for the replies!

Will be a couple of weeks before this needs to go in. Will be thoroughly researching the options.

Thanks Again!

Leon.
