Tom,

In following the steps in Chapter 2, after disabling socket pooling and telling the Default SMTP Virtual Server to listen on the internal IP address, shouldn't it be this IP address we publish instead of the Exchange server's IP address?

In your example you set the ISA box with SMTP installed to listen on 10.0.0.1, but you published 10.0.0.2, which I'm assuming is your Exchange box.

Hi Bill,

Hmm. That doesn't sound right to me. Can you point me to where you saw this?

Thanks!
Tom

It's step 3 in the "Configuring Server Publishing Rules on the ISA Server Firewall" on the SMTP Filter and Message Screen Part 2 page.

It's also in Chapter 2 (Block Spam and Viruses with the SMTP Filter and Message Screener) of the ISA Server 2000 Application Layer Filtering Kit, specifically step 3 of the "Configuring Server Publishing Rules on the ISA Server Firewall" section.

Hi Bill,

'ho boy! You've got a good eye [Smile]

You are correct. The IP address should have been 10.0.0.1, which is the IP address on the internal interface of the ISA firewall. The whole point was to publish the SMTP service on the ISA firewall, so that the SMTP relay on the firewall forwards to the SMTP service on the internal network.

I'll see about getting that fixed.

Thanks!
Tom

Hi Bill,

Sure! In fact, if you come to TechEd in San Diego next year (April) I'll hand deliver it to you [Smile]

Thanks again!
