Hi Dritani,

1. More granular control over inbound and outbound access a user/group basis

2. More granular control over VPN connections on a user/group basis

3. Much more secure SSL publishing

4. Much more secure OWA publishing

5. Better logging and reporting

6. Better update mechanism (people don't think about updating 'hardware' firewalls, but you do need to but sinces its such a bear, people don't. The ISA firewall is much easier to update)

7. Easier to manage and configure

HTH,
Tom

I'm not anti-ISA by any means, but I think you need to compare features, price, and a lot of factors when you pick a firewall. Don't buy into the Cisco hype that their stuff is "better" or will work better with their products. There are a lot of good firewall companies out there besides ISA, such as Juniper, Sonicwall, Watchguard, and others. In the end, it comes down to what you are wanting to accomplish, how you want to manage it, price is always a factor, and the learning curve involved for your IT staff to learn/manage the product.

Hi Dritani,

Cleaner has a good point. Do you have some specific requirements? Chapter 2 of our book does a head to head against PIX and the ISA firewall, so you might check that out. Its not on the Web, but the book also has other good information in it too :)

HTH,
Tom

Cleaner and Tom,

Thanks for your help.

The idea is that we have already an ISA 2000 and running very good, no complaints at all until now (touch wood).
In the future we are going to upgrade it and some one had the idea of going for PIX. The reason that is that he has used PIX before and don't like ISA, (because is not comfortable with it), but I don't thing this is the way to chose.
So I need to find the right answer for my self and him and the company as well.

Thanks again!
Dritani.

What's funny is with the giant influx of CCNA's (used to be the MCSE problem) in the IT field, they tend to think that the Blue bridges are the best thing since sliced bread. Cisco makes a decent product...but that's just it...decent. They have a very large market share, and their marketing ideal of "all cisco in your shop" is imbedded in almost all Cisco guys. The problem is....there is such a thing as "best of breed" and Cisco usually is not the best in a particular area. ISA 2004 is a much easier to use product than any PIX firewall, and if your Cisco guy isn't comfortable around ISA then he didn't know PIX very well either.
