hi all,

if any one still has a question or a thought about why microsoft did released ISA 2006 rather than ISA 2004 SP3 , then read this http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=65 and it will clear eveything.

This is an interview with Jim Allchin. Allchin, the co-president of Microsoft’s platforms and services business.

The main point is
quote:

why Microsoft decided to christen XP SP2 a service pack (rather than a new Windows release),

This will show you that after this, microsoft from now on decided to have a R2 for her OS and Software instead of a major SP change.

Hi Tarek,

Makes sense. Although it doesn't help with some of the disappointment that all the features we've been asking for during the last five years wasn't included in 2006

Same as Windows 2003 R2 , it didnt make since to have an R2 !!

quote:

because if I would have called it something and everybody said, yeah, well, they shipped Windows XP release 2, yeah, they really didn't sit around doing nothing.

IMHO, if they will be doing this with every product , then its better not to buy the first release of the product and wait for some time before the R2 is released

Hi Tarek,

That might be the way to go. They've been told to have 2 year release cycles to make the software assurance customers happy.
