Status: offline 		I noticed that IS2004 installed MSDE version of SQL on MSFW named intsantce. As far as I can see logging is going to text files, why MSDE is needed on a box? Can it be removed?

Status: offline 		yes it can be removed.
Use isa server installation to deselect MSDE during install.

You should use the advanced MSDE logging for awhile. You'll be impressed with what you can do with it.
