What is the main benefit of using the firewall client? Do I really need it? I currently use ISA 2000 and we do not use the firewall client. I have Symantec's Client security firewall. So do I need ISA2004 firewall?

The problem with using web proxy is that some applications do not support it, and others require that you enter credentials/passwords which is not very secure. Also, the web proxy will prompt a user for alternate credentials if their existing credentials are insufficient. This encourages impersonation and password stealing.

Since the firewall client works on the winsock level, it is completely transparent to winsock compliant applications and it does not prompt for alternate creds.

There are also significant differences between the two in what gets recorded in the log files.

Why not just experiment with both and see for yourself?
