We've just had ISA Server installed in work and I'm trying to configure it to allow a WinVNC connection to a specific local ip address. I've had a search and read through previous threads but can't find an answer to my specific problem.

I've opened the relevant ports (tcp 5800 and 5900) on the adsl router. The router's internal ip exists on a different subnet to the main network (the router's internal ip is configured as ISA Server's external ip).

I followed Greg's article on setting up VNC to work under ISA. Under Policy Elements, I have created two protocol definitions for WinVNC (1 for tcp inbound on 5800 and 1 for tcp inbound on 5900). Then, under Server Publishing Rules, I have created two servers that use my WinVNC protocols. The internal ip is set to the client I want to control with WinVNC (this is obviously running a WinVNC server and is set up with DHCP) and the external ip address is set to the internal ip address of the router (a different subnet, as stated previously).

I don't seem to be able to get it to work and I'm a bit stuck for ideas? I think the cause of the problem is the fact that the I'm dealing with two subnets - is there something I'm missing or is there a fix for this?

All help greatly appreciated.

Hi Bryn,

Do a NetMon trace and see where the connect stops. It might not even be making it to the ISA firewall.

Thanks!
Tom
