Hi

I have a question about CAL licensing for the Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition that ISA 2004 will reside on.

Are any CAL's required to be purchased for the Windows Server 2003 platform?

I have contacted a number of organisations to find out the answer to this and have been given conflicting responses with some saying that Windows 2003 doesn't not need any CAL's purchased as the per processor licensing of ISA negates the need for CAL's.

I have also been informed that a CAL will be required for each user on the network and it is only the ISA software that is covered by the per processor licensing.

If you could give me a clear answer on this, I'd be most grateful.

Hi Tony,

The ISA firewall doesn't require CALs.

Windows will require CALs if you plan to support the Firewall client share on the ISA firewall. If you're not hosting the Firewall client share, then you don't need CALs.
