I have windows small business server premium running with ISA 2004. So far everything works great except the windows media services rule. I exactly duplicated the SMTP rule which works but the media services request always go directly to DEINED by the defualt rule when I monitor the connections. Please any ideas would be great as it makes no sense to me. colotti@yahoo.com

Hi Chris,

What are the details of the rule that you're creating for Windows Media Services?

Are you trying to enable inbound or outbound access?

Thanks!
Tom

The rule would is basically External to Locahost for the MMS Server, HTTP server, etc multimedia protocols to allow. The funny part is the requests are comign in but they are being denied byt the default rule all the way down. So I see the requests they are just getting denied.

Hi Chris,

Try creating a Server Publishing Rule that allows RTSP as well.

Tom

Hi Chris,

It depends. [Big Grin]

Try publishing rules first. If those don't work, ten disable those rules and create Access Rules.

Tom

SO would I need an individual Server rule for each protocol used?

Well I created a server rule for each type even though they are all on the local host and it seems to work. Feels a little backwards though!

Hi Chris,

Great! I know it seems backwards, but once you understand how the ISA firewall interprets publishing and access rules, it makes complete sense.

Good to hear you got it working and thanks for the follow up!
