I have found an article which says that I need to do one of two things to make sure that this works properly. None of the suggestions work. The clients are in a "restricted Internet Users" group. Clients which have no restrictions can perform the Windows Update without any problem. Restricted users are allowed a set list of websites as defined by a destination set. The default rule is to deny and redirects to an internal webserver saying that it is a restricted site if not in the destination set. This works without any problems. I have added *.microsoft.com and *.verisign.com to the destination set for restricted users.

The key to solving this problem MUST be an external website which the client must access to confirm the authenticy??

The PC behaves thus:
Windows Update > Download> Install - and a popup appears saying "Publisher cannot be determined" asking if you want to install (as if it were an unsigned piece of code). If you choose yes, then an MSDOS window opens with a long hand and in some instances a large bunch of gibberish is dumped to the printer. (The printjob has no name)

If you logon as an administrator, or a non-restricted Internet user there is absolutely no problem on the exact same workstation. The update loads and installs normally.

Details of Setup
There are no viruses present, Windows 2000 Professional with Internet Explorer 5.5, 6.0 and Windows 2000 SBS SPK2, ISA SPK1.

Again the "Redirect to the HTTP server" in HTTP redirector doesn't fix the problem.

Setting browse FTP as folder, enable HTTP 1.1 through Proxy and the LOWEST security settings do not fix the problem.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Hi John,

I would check the Web Proxy log to see what part of the request is being denied.

HTH,
Tom
