Okay, I set up the ISA 2004 server very simply; just added an allow all outbound and the DNS, and that's it, just to get started.
I hit apply to those two rules (as I followed in your guide), and then go to my Windows XP box to try to log into the domain. I type in my password and it just hangs. 15 or 20 minutes later it finally logs in, but I have no internet access or anything like that.
Would appreciate any help, as I was testing on my home network and now I'm having problems
Thanks!

Apparently I'm having more than a bit of trouble...
I followed the guide exactly to the tee on this site. I should mention that I'm a home user, and I was doing this to learn something but unfortunately it seems I've done some bad damage.
Anyhoo... I followed the guide, added the 'Allow all outbound' and the DNS rules. My setup before, was using Remote Routing and Access, and all my home PCs would get an IP address from a DHCP server. My IP range is 50.50.100.0-255, the IP of my server is 50.50.42.1 (this is meant so I can connect to work remotely).
Anyways... Everything was working fine, I could log in, see my network, drives were mapped, etc. I installed ISA server and now it seems I cannot get an IP at all from DHCP. I tried adding rules to allow DHCP requests and sends to be allowed, but it doesn't seem to help. Additionally, I think the DNS can't be found either, which is why it takes so long to log into the domain. I tried to type the DNS in manually to see if that would alleviate anything, but it seems that ISA server is cutting me off, or something.
If this could be explained to an idiot just trying to learn the basics, I'd really appreciate it. Right now my entire network is useless and I'm typing here on my server in order to get my questions answered. Thanks very much!

Always the best bet is have isa as seperate machine.
Use VMWare for your virtual machine...it works fantastic...
Ok, the issue, might be your dns or subnetting...
try one by one....
first make sure that by explicitly defining the IPs, it works..
get the valid lan side IP scheme from ISA. Put that in your xp machine. Gateway will be pointed to ISA, if you do not have dns, you may want to put that in ISA server's internal interface ( your isp provided dns ) and make that isa as caching only dns.
then you point your client gateway as isa, dns as isa, should work.....if this works....then
you may wanna check for dhcp, just enable from infrastrucutre protocol and install the dhcp.....but, wait....I think windows 2000 server dhcp is somehow related with AD, so I'm not quite sure you can have that.....
Yes, in vpn you can have dhcp, but that is for outside.....
Give it try....

How do I get the valid lan side IP scheme from ISA? I do have DNS installed and working (well it was working before ISA got installed). I also have an external DNS that my cable modem is on, on a second NIC.
I already have DHCP installed as well... so I'm not sure what you meant by installing it again. Please let me know, as I'm still pretty confused. I have uninstalled it for the time being until I can get it working properly.
