All,
I have installed Windows 2003 server RTM Ent Edition and wish to install ISA on the same PC.
I have followed the document on this site, http://www.isaserver.org/tutorials/Installing_ISA_Server_on_a_Domain_Controller.html , for installing ISA on a domian controller which is what I used for setting up DNS on the beta version of server 2003 but for the RTM version it doesnt seem to work.
Has anyone managed to set this up or can point me in the right directon?
Thanks Raj

What part of the install are you having issues with, post is a little vague for anyone to ty to help ya. Was this a fresh install of 2003 RTM Ent? Is the system being used for testing as a stand-alone or is it a new DC to an existing domain?

Hi,
The problem I am having is if I follow the document and complete the installation of DNS/AD when I come to test the DNS is working I get fails for both tests i.e. Simple and Recursive test.
If I disable the externalNIC and enter a default gateway on the internalNIC (i.e the LAN Router) it works the DNS tests both pass.
If I enable the externalNIC, remove the default gateway from the internalNIC the DNS tests both fail.
I was using Windows.Net 2003 RC2 for months and it all worked fine. Now I have upgraded to Windows Server 2003 Ent Edition and it wont work.
When I say upgraded I been I did a fresh install of Windows Server 2003 Ent Edition.
Hope someone can help
Thanks

Hi Raj,
I think you're having a very subtle configuration problem. It should not matter what the default gateway is, and you should never need to disable the external interface.
Make sure the DNS server listens only on the internal interface.
Confirm that the DNS query packet filter is on the ISA Server and that it it working
Set the internal interface to use the internal IP address of the ISA Server as its DNS server
HTH, Tom

Hi,
I am having these problems before I install ISA server. Whenever I enable the externalNIC the DNS server starts to listen on that NIC even though I have configured it to use the internalNIC. As soon as I disable the externalNic the DNS start listening on the internalNic - I cant understand why it is doing that.
I have done a complete wipe of the hard disk and did a fresh install of Windows 2003 server Ent Edition followed the document with one slight change - for dynamic updates on the forward and reverse lookup zone I selected 'Nonsecure & secure', the document says to select 'Yes' but there is no 'Yes' option in Server 2003 only 'None' or 'nonsecure and secure'
Any ideas? Raj
