Hi,
I'm having a problem, maybe someone out there can help. I have NMAP installed on my box, and when I run an X-mas tree port scan on the external interface of our firewall, it causes the server to reboot on it's own. It also happens when I run an IP Scan on the same Interface. Not sure how I can configure an IP Packet Filter or Protocol rule to deny this attack. Can anyone help? "[Frown]"

Hi A,

I'm running it even with the "insane" scanning and can't get it to reboot. Is packet filtering enabled on your machine?

Thanks!
Tom

hi Tom,
I'm not sure what "insane" scanning is, but Packet filtering is enabled on my Firewall. If I do a FIN stealth scan, the box doesn't reboot. I'm puzzled by the reboot due to the X-mas tree scan though. Please advise.

Hi A,

I believe the "insane" relates to how aggressive the scan is. I'm also running the Emas tree scan, and not getting any reboots.
