Hi,

I want to set up isa server as a proxy server to control students.

the literature says i need 2 network cards, 1 for internal network and 1 connected to the internet

can I just plug it into the network using 1 card, (My network is is part of a large netware tree)
and then point the clients to it via Internet explorer on each of the clients?

In other words it won't be the main web server which is external to my subnet but I want to use its functionality
for the machines within the school?

regards

chris

Sure. You can get away with using only 1 interface..... but it's not ideal.
If you use 2 NIC's (1 internal, i external) you can define ISA as being teh ONLY entry/exit point to the network to ensure all traffic passes through it. With 1 NIC clients can easily change their machien to not use the proxy IP and your not getting teh benefit of cache.

In a caching only environment its certainly possible to use only 1 NIC but as metioned above, its easy to get around + there are some instances where this poses a proble.. I'm racking my brain to remember whats on the tip of my tongue. Something about SSL ports tunneled in a 1NIC cache setup??? Nah, cant remember what it was....
