okay, so this problem is going to do me in... its a Random issue... every now and then when a customer is checking their mail with a pop3 client, it gives a message saying "your connection to the server has been terminitated.." now when i check the logs in the FW.. i get this... im not sure if its the mail server or the firewall - btw, im running Imail for the email server... heres the logs, ive replaced the ip address with "ip" .. for better a better viewing experience, ive uploaded this to my server ... as a .txt file :) http://edward.visualcomposer.com/pop3.txt .

Hi ealdridge, yep... that article only applies to ISA 2000, although you could use the same methodology to attack your specific problem. In other words, try if you can simulate the problem with the listed command file and if so, take a network monitor trace on the ISA external interface to find out what is really happening on the wire. HTH, Stefaan

Hi Edward, Ha! For performance issues I might have thought about that, but selective POP3 problems? If that ends up being the cause, it'll be great to put that in as a tip in the next newsletter! Thanks! Tom

Tom wasnt the issue.. but.. .it cant help but to update the network drivers.. i think i have FINALLY solved the issue..(no help from Microsoft though).... in my POP3 / SMTP rules.. i changed the setting.... on the "TO" tab of the rule...... changed the setting FROM -> requests appear to come from the original CLIENT... TO -> requests appear to come from the ISA server this has seemed to fix my problem.. i changed the rules yesterday at 9AM and so far (24 hours later) i havent had a SINGLE failure... this should be a darned sticky for people having this issue :) -thanks for the help guys!

Hi Edward, Hmmm. Now its getting interesting again! I wonder if this is an MTU issue? Do you know if Path MTU Discovery is enabled on the ISA firewall? Thanks! Tom
