SMTP or event logs just aint good enough.

windows clients and server both support built in snmp. also if you're looking to specific isa server addons, microsoft mom 2005 has management packs for that kind of monitoring.
fyi, Windows from what i know uses snmpv1 and i dont think it uses encryption, and is poorly secured using only a community string.
you're best bet for high end monitoring of your Windows servers and snmp devices, using MS software, would be to impliment MOM 2005.
