so the problem i have is in using bittorrent with isa server. i want to publish using azureus on only one computer incoming tcp port 6666. the issue is, it works fine with 6881, but the azureus winzard when testing shows nat errors when i use incoming 6666.
so far i've created an access rule to allow outgoing 6881-6889 for internal clients. however, i still need incoming 6881 or 6666.
y on earth it doesnt want to work with 6666, i dont know. it works fine on other systems using winxp firewall when i directly have internet access, but with isa, it's somehow different.
any suggestions?

Hi None,

I'm going to move this to the gaming section where you might get more response.

Thanks!
Tom

Try to make a server publishing rule to port 6881. There is a difference between access rule and sever publishing rule.

i'm trying to publish on port 6666. not 6881. and it's not working.
the access rules are for outbound bittorrent access. so i open 6881-6889. but what about incoming connections? and does that affect outgoing ports?

1)set new 'protocol definition' TCP 6666(incoming)
Noneed for any secondary connection.
Multiple download will still works.

2)set 'access rule', allow all traffic, apply to only computers with bittorrent client(create necessary 'client address sets').

3)set 'server publishing rules' using the new 'protocol definition'.
* 'server publishing'='port forwarding'

4)on the computer with bittorrent client, ensure the client setting to use only port 6666.
Do not allow any other funky setting offer by the client.
I m using 'bit comet' to test. setting is 'no proxy', uncheck everything at 'properties'->'advanced'->'connection'.
Ensure the computer is a 'secure NAT client'(i.e. the NIC 'gateway'=ISA server internal IP)

For another computer to use bittorrent, set another 'protocol definition' with different port then 'server publishing' again.

Still under testing, there are numerous .torrent that couldnt connect to the tracker. Dunno if problem is on the ISA setting or tracker's server down.

ok i figured it out. it wasn't isa server or or the bittorrent client. it was cus i have mcafee enterprise 8i anti virus installed, and the port blocking feature blocks port 6666 by default. and i chose to use that port for bittorrent downloads. so yeah, it was cus of mcafee antivirus/firewall
just thought i'd let others know if they have a similar setup

I have a question about that, bt works fine so far. But i have a limit of 1 GB per month (8:00 till 18:00).
How could i block the traffic in that time? Cause i tried to disable the webserver publishing rule, but bt still downloads.

Hello,

create a rule using schdules that disallow the traffic you want to block during the respective time.

Also tried that and blocked Ports, all traffic...but Bit Torrent still works at highest downloadlevel.
Even if I block everything, Bit Torrent still downloads...
Is manual "deactivation" for the web server publishing rule enought, to deactivate it? Cause it doesnŠt take any effect. It Seems like the Client with BT routs around the firewall, the only way to stop the webserver publishing rule is to restart the ISA Server.

there is no way the client can get through ISA unless you allow him to. Check the logs and then identify how he is getting through then remove his name from the rule that is allowing him.

if you have other routes out of the network he maybe using those [Wink]

Yes, I have 1 router in my network. Was a modem at first, but with new fw it works as a router now. Every Client is connected with both, the ISA Server an the Router, the Router works with 10.0.0.xxx and the Server with 192.168.0.xxx and 192.168.1.xxx
But the full Bandwidth from BT is shown on the ISA Server, with a traffic program.

So, now my Server has the only connection to the router/modem...but Bit Torrent still downloads. Have u tried it at your ISA Server? Please make a Screenshot of your settings, if it works.

Chris,

To make things easier you should take the modem off the Ethernet segment if the router modem is infact the hub or switch then you need to get another switch for your LAN. Then take a cross over cable and connect the ISA server to the modem directly.

Clients should not be able to bypass
ISA if you have followed these guidelines.

I am glad to see you are taking this seriously as bit torrent presents many security risks to networks and could potentially land your organization in lots of trouble with BSA and RIA type organizations that search for companies and individuals distributing and downloading Mp3Æs and pirated software. Peer to peer is also bandwidth intensive and can also max out a clients connection limit.

Hope this helps

Here are some pictures of my configuration: webserver publishing rule, with timetable. Source is every IP and server destination is the BT Client IP.
The BT Client and all other PCs get into the internet over NAT on the ISA Server.

I also have a rule, that blocks all traffic from the BT Client, but it dont work for BT. So I canŠt access internetsites or other things on the BT Client, but BT still runs. [Confused]
