website address that uses non-standard ports in the URL (not https)?

i can access to the websites

http://xxx.xxx.com:1608

but when i try to login it I am getting nothing(same pages display)

any idea why ?

Are you certain that when entering user/pass in the login field that it doesn't flick to using a SSL site??
eg: I've often seen this when people have a site alis/redirection for use with cPanel and other hosting solutions. Crednetials are entered into a "plaintext" page but are submitted to a https url on a non-standard port. As such, it "looks" like its not using SSL but they cant get access to the destiantion.

USe view source on the login page to see if you can see if it does go to a SSL page. Also, check your webproxy logs to see what was actualy requested.
