With ISA 2006 and MOSS 2007 (SP1), is it possible to set it up so that when people send a link to a document (or page) on our portal using the internal name (i.e. http://portal)  when people access it through OWA or Outlook Anywhere, ISA can somehow translate that into https://portal.domain.com ?  I have set up link translation on the ISA box for external access to MOSS and I can see how links on the portal (http://portal) are translated fine to https://portal.domain.com  in the GET response, but I didn't know if that would work from within email messages.

We'd like get things set up so that we don't have to tell people that want to send a portal link out via email to remember to modify the link to portal.domain.com from just portal.

Hope that makes sense...
Thanks for any suggestions...

So based on what I've read so far, it appears that this is not possible.  i.e. I can't have a hyperlink in a Word document that points to http://internalhostname and when someone clicks on it from the outside (sharepoint published through ISA 2006) that ISA is able to translate that link inside Word doc to https://fullyqualifieddomainname automatically?  I guess I'll have to have all of my users go through all of their documents on their portals and make sure they use fully qualified links if they link to other places on the portal, correct?

This is possible for OWA as the link translation can work on HTML, but not sure it can be done inside actual documents.

Have you tried adding the filetypes you need to the link translation content types as HTML is the only one enabled by default? I think there is one called 'Documents' which may work...

I assume you have configured MOSS correctly for Alternate Access Mappings?

Some good background can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/isa/2006/secure_web_publishing.mspx

Cheers

Thanks Jason.  Yes, I think I have AAM all set up correctly and I have verified that HTML streams can translate.  I was just curious if it coudl be done on content inside a document.  That would be cool...

So, you gonna have a look at content types then?

I'll take a look.  I looked a bit yesterday on content types but it didn't seem to work.  I figured I'd ask and see if it was technically possible or of the content types were for something else before I beat my head against the wall.

Well, it appears to work with .pdf documents, but even if I add .doc or .docx or application/msword to the content types it does not seem to work with Word documents.  I'm wondering if it works for PDF because the pdf is actually embedded within IE and not a stand alone viewer like Word is.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Yeah sounds like a likely reason...wonder if it works if you use the Word HTML viewer??
