i started using isa server 2004 now alot more and i'm noticing things i dont like. mostly its been gui based issues, and maybe i might be wrong because i haven't bought the lastest book so far (which i will soon). at first glance isa 2004 (based on the gui look), seems to have lost features lol. there are options now much more hidden inside dialog boxes and side panels then in the previous more text based open interface microsoft setup. a few things im still tryin to figure out is where or how the packet filters and the protocol rules were migrated to isa 2004. also where is the option for opening dynamic ports? and where is the option for opening BOTH incoming and outgoing ports for the same protocol.
i was expecting alot more from isa when i first heard of the latest version. then when i tried beta and now the final version i am kinda disapointed it isn't that big of an upgrade. at least it has nice vpn and radius support. been setting that one up right now. but it could have used vpn/ssl, and it ALSO would have been nice to see some wireless additions to isa server since very soon im adding a second internal wireless network to the gateway which will use ssl and active directory for authentication. i hope isa is up for the tast, otherwise im gonna look into symantecs enterprise firewall. but first i'll buy the new isa book and hope for the best

Hi Nonsence,
The new ISA firewall is a TREMENDOUS upgrade and improvement over the old ISA firewall. And it puts the Symantec box to shame. I'd live in fear every day if I had the Symantec box in front of my mission critical resources.
The new ISA firewall is on par, and I'd say better than checkpoint. I think it goes without saying that its much much more secure than PIX or Netscreen, since they are just simple packet filtering routers with a 'firewall piece' included.
HTH, Tom

don't get me too wrong, i do like isa server. so far, it is my fav firewall. but i think it "should" have had some changes done to it that didn't happen so i guess i'm angry cus it didn't happen. as far as the symantec firewall is concerned. i think i'm gonna give it a try soon and see how things go. isa is good, but it's only REALLY good once there are alot of addons bought for it.
also the client firewall for symantec i think is better then the client firewall for isa server. except maybe that damn annoying http referal option in symantecs client. i hate that.
