I'm having problems Blocking Sites where the WWW is not required in the URL. I have created the normal Destinations Sets and S&C Rules. For example, to block access to ICQ's website I add the Destiantion *.icq.com
Now when users type www.icq.com or http://www.icq.com the Block works correctly. But if the Users type http://icq.com or just icq.com they are able to get to the site.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi Damo,

You need to add another destination for the domain.com destination. The * represents a wildcard for hosts in the domain.

HTH,
Tom

Thanks Tom...

I was hoping to get away with one entry per Domain, but so be it.

Cheers.

Damo.

trying to block us.*.mail.yahoo.com but, seems that the ISA does not like the * character as I am using it.

Is it something I am doing wrong ?

Computers can be specified by domain name or by a range of IP addresses. You can use an asterisk (*) as a wildcard when you specify the computer name. For example, to specify all computers in the microsoft.com domain, type the destination as *.microsoft.com. Note that the asterisk can appear only at the start of the domain name, and can be specified only once in the name.
</snip>

Not really all that useful as a site like us.*.yahoo.com can't be blocked using the ISA. Need to specify each one.

Hi Lemon,

You're right about that. You can use the wildcard at the beginning of the FQDN, or you can use it at the end of a path. But nowhere in between.

Thanks!

If you put *domain.com instead of *.domain.com it will block www.domain.com and domain.com request

Hi Qwerty,

Haven't tried it out, but if it works, thanks for the tip!
