I have recently found a strange problem in isa 2000. if i allow https , msn messenger starts working and if i disallow https it stops. i use web proxy and firewall clients.

Thanks for any help in this regard

The article suggested didnŠt work for me. Messenger is a b.... to block. I blocked msn usage by active directory policy not allowing the users to run messengers exe.

Does anyone know a efficient technique to block msn, via firewall ?

goto client config>firewall client>and add
add both ,
and pass site and conatant rule with *.messenger.hotmail.com
and action---deny
i think ur problem will be slove

What if all your clients are secureNAT clients, not firewall clients.........

Block MSN Messenger destination via S&C deny rule for all or for some user. then no matter if user is FWC or SNAT, they will be blocked for accessing msn.

To block access to MSN Messenger with ISA Server is a 2 part solution:

1. Create a destination set with the domains you want to block (ISA Management --> Serve and Arrays --> servername --> Policy Elements --> Destination Sets --> Select set --> Destinations Tab --> Add... button --> *.domainname).

2. Create a Site and Content Rule that uses the new Destination set in Step 1 that ALWAYS DENIES access from ANY REQUEST re ALL CONTENTS GROUPS.

Stop and Start Web Proxy and Firewall Serves.
DONE! Works for ANY domain you wish.
