Has anyone run into the problem of the firewall not starting on a Windows 2003 server?? this occures with Routing and remote access install with incoming VPN, outgoing NAT...
Network is outside nic, 10.x.x.x nic for exchange server and web server access, and 192.x.x.x for my internal users.
If I blow away RRAS, reinstall all sp for ISA, and restart the machine, firewall comes up. I then reconfigure the RRAS as before. Everything works until I reboot....
Any Ideas??
Thank you Marvin

I have ISA up and running on 2003 and it's very stable. The only issue I have now is NLB isn't working right with the setup, not sure if it's 2003 related. Anyone else out there have ISA2000/Windows 2003 setup with NLB?

Ok Attempting to install ISA 2000 onto Windows 2003 into a Array is not working.
Process: Install W2k3 Insall Isa 2000 Install ISA 2000 SP1 Reboot install ISA 2000 2003 Hotfix
None of the ISA services will start. The event log has:
Event ID: 11002 Microsoft ISA Server Control failed to start. The failure occurred during Service initialization because the configuration property msFPCSiteName of key LDAP://mydom.local/CN={some GUID},CN=Arrays,CN=Fpc,CN=System,DC=yyy,DC=local is not valid. Use the source location 114.260.3.0.1200.166 to report the failure. The error code in the Data area of the event properties indicates the cause of the failure. For more information about this event, see ISA Server Help. The error description is: The parameter is incorrect.
--------------- Using adsiedit to view this in AD and I cannot find the value at all. There are 0 additional members in the array. Opening ISA Admin and setting array policies etc works fine.... --------------- KB articles regarding errror 11002 say the AD is corrupt, uninstall and remove AD extensions... I have done this to no avail, tried about 5 times with same result always.
OK, so Next decided to install as standalone... No problems encountered at all.
Any one know what gives???

Upgraded last week from Win2k with ISA2k to Win2003 Standard. Since then, RRAS service will not start, reporting a 7052 error in the event log with 127 as the data. Tried clearing the configuration, but whenever I try to start it, I get the same message telling me the service won't start. Is used for VPN, which was working until re-install took place.
Any ideas?

Hi there,
I've just experienced the vey same problem - 11002. There is a previos message which says:
ISA Server snapin failed to retrieve the arrays list since connection to Global Catalog could not be established. It will next try to retrieve the arrays information from current domain. Check your Active Directory configuration, DNS settings and ensure that the 'Net Logon' service is started.
What this message is saying is it can't contact the global catalogue server. So check the ISA server has visibility on the network to the GC DC. Also check your DNS has all the rellevent DNS entries for the domain and forest global catalogue DC. Once we entered the DNS entries back into DNS..... wham it all started working [ May 07, 2004, 01:58 PM: Message edited by: Mozart ]

I am attempting to run the installation from the CD ROM drive and have placed the MsISAund.ini on C:\ .
Any help would be appreciated!
Hi Tony,
I've never run ISA in unattended mode on Windows 2003. Are you OEM?
Thanks! Tom
Chaps,
I've just successfully completed an unattended install on Windows 2003 followed by a successful manual uninstall. First time round, however, I got exactly the symptoms mentioned by Tony. The above indicates that the MsISAund.ini does not contain the relevant path to the install directory. I was trying to use it to install to D:\Program Files\ISA Server, but I hadn't used double quotes and I'd mucked up the drive letter so it installed to the default location.
To remedy this - run a manual install over the current directory and then manually uninstall it afterwards. Then check your MsISAund.ini and try again. Windows 2003 seems to require quotes in the installation directory path if you are using long file names.
Good luck

Only issue I can't seem to get rid of is the WSPSRV.EXE service taking more and more CPU and memory usage until the users are no longer able to view the internet and the ISA services need to be restarted. Has anyone come up with any fixes for this? Other than ISA 2K and all updates, there is nothing installed on this server
Thanks

Tom,
I read your article about installing ISA on 2K3. I notice you install the special hotfix isahf255.exe after SP1 and then you install FP1.
Is that hotfix still required? Is it included in SP2? I installed ISA on W2K3 by first installing SP1, then FP1 and then SP2. Is this good too?
I have done this on 3 servers but one of them has a crashy w3proxy service. The others are very stable. It might be caused by hardwareproblems but I wanted to be sure it is not caused by not installing the isahf225.exe
Thanks in advance, Jeroen.

Aqib khan,
have you installed that specific hotfix? Or did you do SP1, FP1 and then SP2 only?
To stop users from downloading, you might tryout Websense.
Kind regards, Jeroen.

Dear Tom,
Many thanks for your article and hope you help me out with this problem. I have a problem with downloading and I couldnĘt figure out reason for that.
The problem is, my clients behind ISA 2000 cant download anything. If they try to download any file it starts the download and finishes with less than 100 kb. Browsing seems fine. This happens with SecureNat clients, Web Proxy clients and firewall clinets, with authentication and without authentication. Iam sure it should be some configuration issue. But i tried a lot and last few days iam browsing through isaserver.org and iam tried now.
Setup details are
ISA 2000 server on Windows 2003 SBS as a stand-alone server.
Service pack 1, ISA hotfix to work in Windows 2003 and Feature Pack 1 is also installed.
All open firewall policy is enabled in the server.
Clients are Windows XP with IE 6.0 with Service Pack 1
Regards
TG

I have the same problem as Marvin - see post - January 30, 2004 11:06 PM. Does anyone know how to fix this other than removing RRAS?

I too am having problems getting ISA 2000 to run on Win 2003. I have built a new Win 2003 server, installed Win 2003 SP2 and all updates. Installed ISA 2000, got the message about it being shutdown by Win 2003. I then installed SP2 which corrected the above issue. However, I cannot get the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service to start. I receive error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start. In the Event Viewer, the following entry is made when I attempt to start the service: Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7001 Date: 7/26/2007 Time: 11:08:50 AM User: N/A Computer: ***-***-** Description: The Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service depends on the Microsoft Firewall service which failed to start because of the following error: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. On the Microsoft site, I found the following: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813915 but none of the 3 resolutions listed apply to my configuration. Is ISA 2000 only compatible with Win 2003 SP1, maybe not SP2? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
