Eliezer -> VPN, POP3 And RETR command (4.Nov.2003 8:01:00 PM)

I can't use the command "RETR" of POP3 through a VPN connection.

When I try download mail, the Outlook Express sends me a timeout error.

I tried with telnet, I can use all POP3 commands except "RETR".

Thanks in advance.

Excuse Me, my English is not good.

Eliezer

Hi Elizer,

Does it work when the ISA firewall is not a VPN server? That is to say, when you're just connecting to the RRAS VPN?

Thanks!
Tom

Hi tshinder,

I only tried with the ISA Server as VPN Server.

I have 2 Networks
A - With ISA SERVER
B - Only with Routing and Remote Access

I made the VPN as follows.
- The B make the call to A.
- The users of B access Internet through the VPN with A
- The rules of ISA Server work fine for the users of B. (Web and SMTP, except the RETR command of POP3)
- The users of B have the firewall client installed

If I try download mail from the gateway (Win2k - Routing and...) of B works fine, but if I try from other PC of the network B I can't download the mail, the outlook express sends a timeout error message.

I used a Sniffer and I found that the RETR command of POP3 returns the response only to Gateway B, not to PC destinated.

I disabled the Antivirus (Norton) in the Gateway B, but didn't work.

Thanks in advance.

Eliezer

Hi Eliezer,

Do you have a network diagram of what you're trying to accomplish? I'm having difficulty understanding what it is that you want to do.

Thanks!
Tom

Thanks Tom,

Sorry, I don't have a diagram.

I hope explain well the problem.
I have 2 networks "A" and "B", only "A" has ISA Server, "B" make the VPN call (RRAS) to "A".
I want to use the proxy of "A" for the users of "B",but when I try to download mail from a computer of "B" using "A"(ISA) as gateway, I can't use the command "RETR" of POP3, But I can download mail from the gateway computer of "B" (RRAS) using "A" (ISA) as gateway.

I couldn't resolve the original problem, but I found a alternative way.

- Uninstall the firewall client of computers of "B"
- Using second gateway in the clients of "B".

Excuse me, my english is not good.

Thanks again.

This looks like the same problem.

Hi Eliezer,

OK, I've seen something like this before. You might try installing the latest rollup hotfix and see if that helps. Also, what if you increase the timeout for the POP3 connection?

Thanks!
Tom

Hi Tom.
I have identical problem.
IsaServer 2004, pptp site-to-site.
Only RETR don't route through VPN connection from branch office.

Any new idea ?
