For those of you that have been trying to get the new DirectPlay8 stuff to work through ISA Server, here is something that you may really like:

Make a single protocol definition:

Primary: 6072 UDP Send
2ndary: 0 UDP Receive
2ndary: 2302-2400 UDP SendReceive

You must run the firewall proxy client for this to work.

Hi Jaime

I hope this works for Mechwarrior 4 which demands dx8. Does it use tha new interface ?

Also, My sbs2000 box which is why we have ISAS appears to be degrading under assault from Mechwarrior 4.

BSOD: stating Multiple_irp_complete_requests
It started with trying to joint a game in the zone, now it has progressed so that i can't even get the in-game server listing. do you have Mech4.

Anyway for your info, a Microsoft Most Valued Person (MVP) told me in the newsgroup that due to the nature of the zone, 1 has to put a client in the DMZ, probably with a fixed IP, to make it work.

Cheers an thanks

Vite

P.S.

Do you also have to make the firewall client configuration enteries, i.e. remoteudpports bind etc ?

Nope, MechWarrior4 uses the older iDirectPlay4 interfaces. These settings won't make any difference. I'll see if I can get this to work today and let you know.

Yup, I was able to get this to work without a problem. Please see the post that I posted called "HowTo: Mech Warrior 4". Let me know if there are any issues.

How am i supposed to set up the firewall client to support this.. i am using an "allow all" ip protocol definition..

Tried setting "RemoteBindUdpPorts" to 0, and different variations out of that.. But.. well.. no go

CyberMax

PS. This is in DX8 game OperationFlashPoint

You dont need to set anything in the firewall client for OperationFlashPoint to work. It should just work unless they've using some custom ports or something. You don't need to enable the an "all" rule for this to work. If its not working with the "all" rule on, then there must be some other problem.

I was just told by someone that has a copy of this game that if you read the readme.txt file that comes with the game it will tell you what you need to do to use this behind a firewall. I think it uses TCP port 2234 Outgoing in addition to what it uses for the DX8 stuff.

The game does NOT work.. not with all the "directX port settings", not with an "all ip protocol rule" not at all!

The game actually connects on 2234 UDP, and not TCP (even though the manufacturer says so..). I have tried to make an seperate rule for this, and i can connect with the server without problems, BUT when i try to join the game.. It just times out, and cannot connect.

I have NEVER gotten this to work, and have tried ALL the DirectX port settings+++, but it have NOT bearing whatsoever on the bit where i JOIN the game..

Everything works if i dial-up directly from my workstation. And it worked using port forwarding and RRAS under Win2K server. To get everything to work with RRAS, i created portforwarding for the folowing ports : 6073, 2234, 2302-2305, 1024-1030.

BUT.. there is no "easy" way of doing portforwarding under ISA, and server publishing rules for ports 2300-2305 i have already tried, but that did nothing.

I presume the following :

1. I have set "logg packets from allow filter" to view what ports being used
2. I am using "bt-patrol" to view "real-time" what is being logged in the firewall logs.

Upon connecting, i can se i connect to the server ip on ports UDP 6073 and 2234. Following is a clip from the FWClient log :

And i can see these ports are "allowed" from the server in the ip security log. I get no DENIED at all in the ip log.. so i really don't get it.. Just times out.. "Connection Failed".

You may want to check the IPLog to see what traffic is trying to come in to your network.

The FWLog shows you your internal activity heading outbound.

The IPLog shows you incoming requests. My guess is that it is trying to send something to you that is being blocked by the ISA Server.

Ehh.. If you read my post you would actually see THIS :

So.. it would actually seem like i have read the iplog.. right?

Not to be argumentative, but you could have read it more carefully..
