Just as a thought check in the urlscan.ini file to see correct verbs being allowed should you have been running a webserver on same server as isa and locked it down preventing certain url requests from passing through.

You also need to make sure you have configured ISA like this - script below:

------------------------------------------
Const ERROR_ALREADY_EXISTS = 183
Sub CheckError()
'On Error Resume Next
If (Err.Number <> 0) And (Err.Number <> ERROR_ALREADY_EXISTS) Then
MsgBox "An error has occured:" & vbCrLf & Err.Description & Err.Number
WScript.Quit Err.Number
End If
End Sub

On Error Resume Next
Set FPC = CreateObject("FPC.Root")
Set ISA = FPC.Arrays.GetContainingArray
ISA.Refresh

Set Settings = ISA.ClientConfig.Firewall.Settings
Set sec = Settings.AddSection("msmsgs")
sec.Value("NameResolutionForLocalHost") = "E"
sec.Save
CheckError

Set Protocols = ISA.PolicyElements.Protocoldefinitions
Set NewDefinition = Protocols.AddTCP ("MSN Msgr (Real)",1,1863)
CheckError
NewDefinition.Description = ""
NewDefinition.SecondaryConnections.AddTCP 0,6891,6900
CheckError
NewDefinition.SecondaryConnections.AddTCP 1,6891,6900
CheckError
NewDefinition.SecondaryConnections.AddTCP 1,6901,6901
CheckError
NewDefinition.SecondaryConnections.AddUDP 3,6901,6901
CheckError
NewDefinition.SecondaryConnections.AddUDP 3,5004,65535
CheckError
NewDefinition.Save
CheckError

Set ProtocolRules = ISA.ArrayPolicy.ProtocolRules
Set NewRule = ProtocolRules.Add ("MSN Msgr")
CheckError
NewRule.Description = ""
NewRule.Enabled = "True"
NewRule.Action = "0"
NewRule.SetSchedule (" ")
NewRule.ProtocolSelectionMethod = "1"
NewRule.SpecifiedProtocols.Add "MSN Msgr (Real)", "", "0"
CheckError
NewRule.SpecifiedProtocols.Add "Net2Phone", "", "0"
CheckError
NewRule.AppliesToMethod = "0"
NewRule.Save
CheckError
--------------------------------

Hello!

My file transfer ain't working either. I also followed the document from http://www.isaserver.org/pages/games.asp#MSN%20Messenger .

According to the author you must add the following to firewall client:
App: msmsgs
Key: NameResolutionForLocalHost
Value: P

But according to the following line:
sec.Value("NameResolutionForLocalHost") = "E"
in the script above, the value has to be set to "E"?

Wich value should I use? P or E?

Thanks!

Hello again!

Thomas Shinder said in a other topic you can download a script that will set up MSN with the file transfer for you. You can download it at http://isatools.org .

It doesn't work for me but maybe it will help you..

Hi all!

Yesterday I spent the whole day to get the file transfer working but with no result. Today I started my client and it is workin fine now! (and yes, I did update my firewall client and restarted the firewall service yesterday [Smile] ). With version 5.0, I can send and receive files but with 4.7 I only can send files (so maybe you should update to 5.0 if you are experience any problems).

This is what I've done:

I made two Protocol Definitions:

MSN File Transfer Inbound
PN: 6891, PT: TCP, Dir.: Inbound
Sec. conn.: PR: 6891-6900, PT: TCP, Dir.: Inbound

MSN File Transfer Outbound
PN: 6891, PT: TCP, Dir.: Outbound
Sec. conn.: PR: 6891-6900, PT: TCP, Dir.: Outbound

And one Protocol Rule (MSN Messenger) wich applies to the above protocols and MSN, MSN Messenger and Net2Phone.

Good luck!

RenT Kas

Sorry! I forgot to tell I also made changes to my firewall client configuration.

I added the following:

msmsgs : NameResolutionForLocalHost : E
msnmsgr : RemoteBindUDPPorts : 0, 6901
msnmsgr : NameResolutionForLocalHost : E
