I have purchased a domain name to use with my home network. The guides that I have been looking at say to use the ISA 2004 as a chching-only server. My web server is on the perimiter network. If the ISA 2004 is a caching-only, what DNS information do I enter for my domain name? I will be hosting the domain. I have a static IP from my cable comapny for my business account. Will I have to change the DNS on the ISA 2004 to a full authoratative DNS? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Bryan,

What guides said to use the ISA firewall as a caching only server??? I ask because that's nuts! The ISA firewall is a Firewall first, and a caching Web proxy second.

That's why its called the ISA firewall! Check out the articles I've written over the last 10 months on the ISA firewall here on this site and you'll see what I mean.

HTH,
Tom

The guide I am following is the ISA Server 2004 Configuration Guide from Microsoft.

Yes, the articles I read talked about a caching-only DNS server.

If I am trying to hosy my own domain name, where would I locate the DNS server? The internal network would not be appropriate because external clients couldn't resolve it. Would I install the DNS service on the ISA 2004 server as a full authoratative DNS? Would I also then install DNS on my AD which is in the Internal Network?

Any help with these questions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
