This seems like quite a silly question, but the internal network card on my ISA server is 10.180.8.4/255.255.248.0

I have a mail server on 10.180.8.1/255.255.248.0 - should this server be able to ping the internal network card of the ISA server?

At the moment it isn't happening.

I am not sure why, but I believe this to be the cause of my outbound mail not being delivered. The mail server cannot see the internal network card.

This is probably something simple, but I am missing it.

Cheers

Hi,

By default ISA Server 2004 hides its IP address. You can create an allow rule to ping LOCALHOST(ISA Server).

Cheers,

Hi Ian,

Okay, I didn't know that so I will try it. I cannot for the life of me see what is happening with the mail server not being able to see the network card.

Gareth,

You need to update System Policy Rule 10 to allow pings from Internal Network.

By default the System Polciies are hidden. In order to view them click on Firewall in ISA Management to view the Firewall Rules. On the task pane on the right-hand side Click on SHOW SYSTEM POLICIES.

Scroll upto Rule 10 and double click it. Goto to the FROM tab and click on Add, Expand the Networks folder and select Internal Network.

Apply the update and then try pinging the ISA server from a workstation/Server using both IP address and hostname. You should find that this works.

Hi,

Thanks everyone. I have got the ping to work. I can now ping the ISA server from my mail server so it definately knows it is there.

The mail problem must be something else :-(
