Ok... i installed my licensed copy of ISA2004 and installed SP1 after that.. set the firewall up without cache and it ran flawless for 2 days...

On the third day i enabled cache (on the same partition) and voila... it crashed big time...

So i decided to put the cache on another hard drive
and still the same problem...

Some radiusauth.dll error... as mentioned above... I really don't know what to do and am stuck..

Please don't tell me not to use radius authentication....

Anyone???

DeReD,

A couple questions, what size of disk cache have you set?

A couple things to try for troubleshooting purposes:

-Turn off write caching on the disk (this can be re-enabled if it does not solve the issue)
-Your pagefile usage is way too high if this server has 1 gig of RAM and is only running ISA
-Have you installed any MDAC updates on the server?
-Strange as it sounds have you run a memory-testing program like memtest86? It could be that once you turn on caching substantially more RAM is being used and hitting bad RAM higher in the range
-Determine the highest speed/duplex your network connections can handle and manually set the speed/duplex on the cards

Just a couple things to try.

Cache size set to 5gb...

RAM is ECC

I used an external hard drive to test caching setting the size to 5gb... still gave the same errors..

My Win2k3 server is completely patched except for the directx and Server 2003 sp1 update..
MDAC updates installed...

When i start it up page file usage at 161mb.. goes up to 450 in a few hours and next day stabilises at 900+mb

The errors take place at RANDOM... even when the page file usage is like 450mb..

The server was used in production as ISA2000 with no problems whatsoever...

Tried most things.. yet no luck.. don't tell me i have to use integrated or use an ISA 2000 server as a cache server... lol..

donno what to do.. stumped.. reading toms book..

Thanks Wolfy..

Mr Shinder.. comon... help now..

It sounds like you may have to open an incident with MS PSS. You have not really described how the RADUIS client on the ISA server interacts withe the RADIUS (or is it IAS) server on the inside. There may be a need to tweak something there.

I suppose your site is too small to warrant having two ISA servers in a back-to-back arrangement? Leave the edge firewall out of the domain with caching disabled and join the inside ISA to the domain with caching.

The Radius server (IAS) is part of the domain..

The Edge Firewall is outside...

Client connects to the firewall via Webproxy request(ie browser) no gateway no firewall client

Webproxy requests to the ISA are authenticated via Radius...

The IAS Radius uses the followin criteria to handle requests...

1:Authentication type = PAP
2:NAS IP Address =
3:Windows Group=XXX\Domain Users

Thats it.. Straight out of Shinders article..

Why is it that when u disable Caching everything works fine.. Why? Whats the connection.. If i enable caching... i get a radiusauth.dll error..

Im soo frustrated..
