Hi, I'm trying to deploy ISA infront of a network load balanced cluster of IIS servers, the trouble is that since i must set NLB to keep affinity by client ip (i.e. the client will be always servered by the same web server), since the client is always the ISA machine, allways the same machine is used while the rest lie idle. I s there a way to solve this, i tried using a protocol rule (i haven't managed yet), but i don't want external visitors to be able to come right in to my webserver (it lies on a very sensitive network). Can someone please explain the way to pass the client ip to IIS without compromising security. Regards Mark

I just realized today that I am having this same problem. I have a 3 node web cluster sitting behind 2 ISA servers. The problem is that only one of my webservers is getting the traffic because of my affinity settings. I do not want to start using server publishing. I just figured out how to do web publishing correctly and have spent a lot of time setting this up. This is yet another problem that I cannot believe Microsoft did not come across. Microsoft should have an official document that explains this one problem.

To mcaptur and vickersjon... I have solved this very problem. If you need any help then let me know and I'll tell you exactly what I did.

Aquabubble - I would be interested, just to see if my configuration is correct. I seem to get intermittent times when (web) published content becomes inaccessible (I think due to intra-array issues).Maybe put together something for our host to add to the "Learning Zone"! -Tony

I realize that this is a little old jumping into this tread, but.. I'm just encountering this issue now and you said you had a solution. Could you please contact me at rex.choi@sbt.siemens.com Thanks, Rex Choi quote: Originally posted by aquabubble: To mcaptur and vickersjon...I have solved this very problem. COuld someone please post a step-by step or screenshots on how exactly they enabled this feature? My logs are only showing internal IP's...I want the real internet IP's to show up on my published internal IIS server. A few people earlier in this thread also seemed confused. It seems like there isnt a good explanation on how to enable this. Thank you very much!

How did you balance the traffic between the clustered IIS servers?

Hi D, The only way to get the actual source IP to the publishing web server: 1. Use a server publishing rule, NOT a Web publishing rule, or 2. Create an application filter that will do this for you. HTH, Tom

Uh.........I was asking how they got around the affinity settings with an IIS NLB cluster behind ISA.
