Hi All,

One of my friend has a typical problem. Below is his scenario.

Set up VPN Server on ISA 2004/SP1/win2000 advanced server. The whole net work is a work group environment.ISA is installed as the front end server. It is used as a proxy server and VPN server. All the VPN clients get connected but they can't see the list of computers from My network Places.

They have wins installed in their DHCP server and the IP of this server is added to ISA's local net wok properties. File and printer sharing is also enabled in the local net work. All the VPN clients laptop is configured to the company's workgroup. But still the VPN clients can't see the computer list from My network Places. From the ISA itself he can't see the list of computers from My network Places.

I found two peculiar rules which I don't understand why he installed and they are given below.

He has created a range of address in the sub net which includes 192.168.0.0-192.168.0.255

The rules are.

1. Rule name: Company Subnet Rule Allow access- All outbound protocols
From : -Included sub nets(as mentioned above)and Internal
To:-Included sub nets(as mentioned above) and Internal

2. Rule name: Company VPN Rule Allow Access- All Outbound protocols
From VPN clients
To -Included subnets and Internal.

Hope these details are enough to get an input.

Zac

Hi Zac,

Check the doc in the ISA 2000 VPN Deployment kit that explains how to enable network browsing for VPN clients.

HTH,
Tom

Hi Tom,

After reading the doc which you mentioned, I solved the problem for my friend. First of all I asked him to refresh the netbios names in the ISA itself by using nbtstat command. After that ISA become able to see the computer list from the My Net work Places. Then I asked him to cross check whether all the laptops of the sales team is properly configured to Win server and he found that the IP of the wins server is not entered in the network properties. Now the VPN clients can see the computer lists.

Thanks a lot and Wishing you a Wonderful Happy New year.

Zac.
