I would like to get people's views on which scenario is better placement for an ISA server in the following network.
This ISA would mainly be doing outbound proxying. Is it better to have it inline physically or by software? software meaning having it set up as my default router. That said, is adding another hop going to give me any significant latency i should worry about?

Hi G,

Inline physically. That's the only secure configuration.

HTH,
Tom

What makes it secure? I have 2 firewalls (really 4, if you count IPS's) in between the LAN and the Internet. If i place it inline physically, it has to be fully redundant.  What makes this extra security level worth spending tons of money to make the system redundant?
