I think the default size of .bin file is "only" 400 Mbyte, not 800.

Has Microsoft gone insane? The disk requirements are getting way out of hand for this stuff and it's not just ISA making these demands.

Hey guys,

yep, the default 'isalog.bin' file is only 400 MByte *but* I see also an 'isalog.bak' file of 400 MByte in the same directory. So, 2 * 400 = 800 Mbyte! [8D]

Don't u think things are going too fast?
I mean: does anybody already succeded in having the opportunity to use and perfecly understand every face of Isa2004?
In less than 1 year we'll have a completely new product....if this beta version i'm looking at is reliable.
I think they are going straight towards boxed appliance also to give spin to sales, am i wrong?
Well, hope nobody misinterpret what i'm saying, i'm glad to see a new product and i've been using Ms Proxy software since 2.0...

Hi Maurissio,

I don't think they'll require an appliance, so you'll still be able to white-box the ISA firewall install. It does seem fast, but this is how the product will update in the future. Probably a major update every four years, and a .1 update every two years. ISA 2006 is a .1 update from ISA 2004, so you want have that much of a learning curve.

seems to me SP2 is a .1 upgrade!
Of course i think u are right about white box, mine was only a commercial malicious comment...

Have u tried this 2006 beta?

Tom I heard that isa 2004 was going to include the ability to do ssl vpn's with sp2? It doesnt seem to be the case...will 2006 include this?

Hi Patrick,

ISA 2004 is a SSL VPN for OWA, if you consider all of the definitions of what an SSL VPN can be.

However, there will be no PPP/SSL in this version.

Hi Patrick,

I should be out soon after the release of the product. There will be a second volume that will come out a few months later that covers advanced branch office, DMZ, and Exchange and SharePoint publishing scenarios.

I'm testing it now and beginning the book updates and new material based on the 2006 feature set.

So far looks very good, but don't put it in production yet.

hi I tried to upgrade from 2004 to 2006. upgrade process hangs on 100% cpu utilization .I break that   process and started from scratch to make   a fresh install . importing the old 2004 settings goes fine. everything seems to work except my publishing owa ssl rule. I get a new login screen  ,but when i give my password and username I get message to use https which I did ,but i get a denial . do I forget something or is owa fba works different now. I  restore in the meantime my old isa config which works fine. but when somebody figure out how it goes with ssl owa publsihing in 2006 beta I like to hear.

hello again fixed already the ssl owa login problem. under settings I set basic authentication instead of no authentication in combination with fb with ad. the upgrading scenario didn,t work well it stopped working and cpu utilization jumps to 100 %, so i stopped it and make a fresh install which works fine. did anybody notice the same problems with upgrading?. Maybe these are beta troubles and will be fixed in the future to upgrade smoothly.

I've been running 2006 as my production server for a while now, stable, reliable and the new stuff is pretty funky.

Hi Tom,

Just a quick question - Does the 2006 version offer the ability to do static 1:1 NAT i.e. control the outgoing IP address? This was the issue faced by many people as you see from the forums, is it available in 2006. I have downloaded the beta but haven't had the time to test it yet.
