Hi Guys
I have installed Isa 22004 sp2, after installation i cannot download only .zip files from my exchange 2003 sp1 with owa.
The Isa 2004 server loggin display thi error:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Microsoft ISA Server Web Proxy
Event Category: None
Event ID: 23002
Date:  07/02/2006
Time:  20.51.04
User:  N/A
Computer: ISA
Description:
ISA Server was unable to process a response body from /exchange because the response was compressed by the none method, which is not supported by ISA Server. As a result, the response was discarded. This happens when the server ignores the request from ISA Server for GZIP compression and instead compresses the response with none.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Any ideas would be much appreciacted. Hope someone can help.

Thanks.

heya

yeah i am getting the same error, have configured no compression rules since sp2, am investigating. all our published webservers have iis 6 (gzip) compression turned on as per documentation - this could be a factor.

there must be a way to make isa with sp2 work well with published iis6 webservers with ms compression turned on.

Hey guys,

Does it work when you diable the compression filter in the Add ons section of the ISA firewall console?

Thanks!
Tom

Hi Tom,

yip disabling the 2 compression filters does fix this, for publishing servers this is fine as most people want the webservers doing the compression,
the downside of course to doing this, isa cannot inspect the compressed traffic, from my short research the problem is IIS 6 will try and compress application files with gzip encoding, and if it cannot it sends a header back to ISA server that the ISA server will not accept and drop the request, for zip files this is the problem, and for OWA users a most annoying one. I tried to make iis see .zip as an application but this still didn't help things. e.g.

.zip application/x-zip-compressed to .zip application/octet-stream

i have yet to try the vbscript thats floating around to enable auto-encoding for the published rule, will post back if this works.

cheers

well is definitly an iis/owa isa issue. hope MS will release a publically available fix for this either for exchange, isa or both. until then i reccomend people
that publish owa, disable the compression filters and fine tune their iis metabase(s) to make IIS 6 compression to suit their setup.

Hi J,
How about configuring the compession filter settings to that zip files and their Content Group are not compressed?

Thanks!
Tom

I've had this exact problem today and can confirm that it is a recognised bug with SP2. The only way to fix it is with a hotfix from Microsoft product support. The KB number is: 915045, although I can't find it while searching on the Microsoft site. If anyone needs this fix in a hurry - please let me know and I'll mail it to you!
