We currently migrated to ISA2004 and performance accessing the internet has been horrible.  I have been doing some monitoring and noticed that the average milliseconds/request and current direct fetches average milliseconds/request are off the map.  Can someone direct me as to what could possibly be the problem and how to correct it?

Hi Sabel:

Here are some things to try:

1) Make sure caching is enabled (it's not enabled by default).
2) Make sure DNS is configured correctly on the ISA Server.
3) Make sure your DNS infrastructure is running healthily.
4) Try to have all users' computers configured as Web Proxy Clients.
5) See KB905179 and KB837572.

Usually, this is a DNS problem.  Ideally, your ISA Server should only have one NIC configured with a DNS server IP (the Internal NIC), that NIC should be at the top of the DNS search binding order, you'll have a split DNS infrastructure, your ISA box will query only the internal DNS server, the internal DNS server forwards its queries to your ISP's public DNS server, and connectivity is fast among all these boxes.

Also, browse the many articles and posts here concerning performance tips and DNS (for screenshots and step-by-step instructions).

Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot.  I will take a look at all these.  Currently I do not think our internal DNS servers forward requests to our public DNS servers.  This might be the issue.
