I want to monitor the complete bandwith usage for a while. We have a 28 bits external subnet.
On that subnet are both our production and testenvironment, with an total of 3 isa servers with an WAN link.
The router in this subnet is managed external, so i can measure from there.

What is the best tool for this?
I have set performance monitor to log the Bytes received, Bytes Sent, Bytes Total on the external interface.
Bytes sent and Bytes received are almost the same. This seems strange to me.

Also the average (8-17 hour) are on our front site firewall in the production environment:
Bytes received 64035 B -> 62 KB p/s
Bytes sent 63515 B      -> 62 KB p/s
Bytes total 127551 B    -> 124 KB p/s

This seems little to me, their we have +/- 60 concurrent VPN Users and 80 office users and a few websites.
Our dsl line is a 6 mbit (up and down).

Is this reliable? Or an I interpreting this wrongly.

Hi Harme,

Try MRTG on the ISA firewalls.

Tom

Ok,

There isn't a simple guide on how to do dis on an isa server??

I'll go and test some what. I installed already the snmp protocol  and the perl on our testenviroment.

SNMP comes with the OS and is easy to install and configure.  You will find it in Add/Remove.  After installing, you simply set the community strings and adjust the security on the service.  Afterward, you adjust the ISA system policy to allow it and maybe an access rule.
