I have a ISA 2000 in my LAN, configured in integrated mode.
I am able to receive mails through outlook express using POP but it is not allowing me to send any mails using SMTP. While I try to send mails it is give the following error: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'test', Server: 'smtp.xyz.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E.
This was working one month back and there has been no changes in the configuration. any clues? while it is also not allowing to have a telnet session to port 25 while i am able to telnet pop.xyz.com 110.
what is the ISA firewall logging telling you? Make sure you have enabled the logging of the fields Rule#1 (Protocol rule) and Rule#2 (Site&cContent rule).
i have enabled the logging. below is an extract of the file #Software: Microsoft(R) Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 #Version: 1.0 #Date: 2006-07-10 00:00:04 #Fields: c-ip cs-username c-agent date time s-computername r-host r-ip r-port time-taken 10.187.39.20 admin msimn.exe:3:5.2 N 2006-07-10 09:12:12 fwsrv MSISA01 - - 82.178.27.19 25 - - -
are you sure you have posted all the relevant log entries? Where are the fields Rule#1 and Rule#2?
I have tried a smtp connection to that server 'smtp.omantel.net.om'. It didn't work from here either. That could indicate that this is an SMTP relay server who only allows connections from a selected IP range owned by that provider.
BTW --- never mess with the IP packet filters to get an access or publishing rule working. If you have to do that then that indicates something else is wrong.
I tried to telnet smtp.omantel.net.om 25 using a dialup conenction while i disabled the local network conenction and was sucessfull. I am sure it has to do with the firewall rules and filters. Please help me in making it work.

To get the most information out of the logfiles, I strongly recommend to enable the logging of all fields. In the MMC, go to the node Monitoring Configuration, then select Logs. In the details pane, right-click the applicable service and then click Properties. On the Fields tab, click Select All. Also I prefer you post in ISA format because it somewhat more handy to use for me.

Here is a copy of the log file line with my log options set to all fields. I've XXXed the ip address of the smtp server.

Neeever mind :-)
I looked at one of the older posts and I saw a reference to mcafee and then I sure enough figured out my problems starterd after I threw mcafee on the isa server. It was blocking port 25. Disabled that and now I'm functioning like a champ again.
Thanks for your post. I just looked and found mcafee is running in the ISA server. Did u completely remove mcafee or disable some it's features. Please do let me know.
