Hi,

Iíve always installed ISA on HP DL320 Dual Xeon Processors, but now I have a part time job and a company asked me to setup a domain controller and a Firewall.

I convinced them not to install ISA on a DC, so I checked their stock and found two computers PIII each with 40 GB HD and 1 GB RAM.

So the domain controller with be on Windows 2003 Standard edition on a PIII with 40 GB space.

The ISA 2006 SE server will be also on a PIII computer with Windows 2003 SE.

So what Iím asking about; well ISA be effected by such system with PIII processor and 1 GB RAM ( that the max ) or its ok .

The company will have a max of 15 clients, barely will have VPN clients.

Thanks.

I have ISA 2006 RC1 installed on a Dell PowerEdge 1300:

Dual PIII 800Mhz
1GB RAM
3 9GB SCSI drives in RAID5 (hosted on a PERC2 controller w/ 16MB RAM)

I have a maximum of 5 clients, though you should be fine :)

Hi Tarek,

You should have no problems with that box. My main ISA firewall in my office is a PIII-1.2GHz with 256 RAM and supports 20 users with no problem on a 15Mbps line.

HTH,
Tom

Hi Tom,

256 RAM !!! for ISA 2006 ??

looking into ISA Server 2006 System Requirements , i can see that ISA 2006 needs a minimum of 512 or more RAM.

and looking into ISA Server 2004 System Requirements , i can see that ISA 2004 needs less resources than ISA 2006 ( from CPU & RAM ) thats why iam worried of installing ISA 2006 on a PIII 633 processor

Thanks,
Tarek

Hi Tarek,

Well, it works very nicely. I don't think that ISA 2006 really has that much more overhead, if any, than ISA 2004. They just changed their "official" requirements so that people don't get disappointed if they decide to install SurfControl on the same box

Tom
