x102020 -> DMZ question (topology) (10.Nov.2006 9:16:41 AM)

Hey there all,

I'm looking for an opinion on where to put my DMZ after reading http://www.isaserver.org/tutorials/2004isapixdmz.html.

I have a Back-to-Back firewall setup -- Sonicwall in front, ISA in the back. Both support my DMZ setup.

Here is my scenario:
We have production machines on the floor which send reports and data collection to a server. These machines send stupid amounts of data (right now across our internal network), and it's causing bandwidth issues with some of our networked apps.
So I'd like to seperate them into a DMZ so they can do there thing without interferance.

My question is:
What are the advantages/disadvantages of putting the DMZ on Sonicwall?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of putting the DMZ on ISA?

thx,
10

Hi 10,

If you need strong protection accross the DMZ, make it an ISA Firewall DMZ. If you need just simple stateful packet inspection, use the sonicwall.

Tom
