Hi, I wasnt quite sure where to put this - so i hope this is appropriate.
I have a situation where an ISA 2006 box is using an ADSL model in 1483 Bridged mode (So the ISA box has the public IP allocated and the ADSL router doesnt take up an IP)
The client now wants to put a box on the same physical switch as the ISA external interface, and give it a public IP.
I have advised against "publishing" a box to the outside world this way, but it got me thinking how (and if) this would work.
With all traffic coming into the ISA server, is the source for any rules classed as "local host" or as "external". If its external, making a rule for "external to external" wouldnt really make sense.
I dont see routing being any issue here, just firewall rules and am interested to hear anyone elses point of view on this. (and ofcourse, Dr Toms if he's busy not writing his nitrogen book)...
Yes, you can create a Web Publishing Rule that will redirect the connections to the external host. I do this for my wife for one of her blogs, but its only redirection, it doesn't apply ISA Firewall security, because you only get ISA Firewall security when the hosts are on an ISA Firewall Protected Network.
