We currently have a PIX firewall and an ISA2004 server.  The ISA server clearly serves a purpose in blocking certain offensive websites, but I am not sure how effective the proxy function is.  The PIX is doing NAT and port blocking.  What does the proxy function of ISA block that isn't already being done?

Who took the decision to buy ISA Server in your Company ??

how do u buy a product that you dont know or at least compare it to what you have !

get ISA 2004 book for Tom, and check the articles in this site, by doing this you will have the ultimate source for ISA Server.

The PIX came first, and the ISA software came afterwards for a total cost of $0.  Yes, it is a fully licensed copy.  As mentioned, we use ISA for web filtering.

As for Tom Shinder's book, I own it but it really wasn't clear to me how the proxy feature is different from what our PIX is giving us.

Have you read Chapter 2 & 3 ??

in chapter three, have you read the part where it says : Cisco PIX: Application Layer Filtering Capabilities

also if you want, you can read this : http://www.microsoft.com/technet/isa/2004/plan/httpfiltering.mspx

HTH,
Tarek
