has any one blocked web browser-based IM client like ebuddy.com, e-messenger.com,meebo.com. (there are thousands of sites and took weeks to create a list)

Good luck with that...  We used to have problems at the schools with kids trying to cheat on tests with the browser based chats.  About the only way to stop them was to lock down the internet.  Unless somebody else has any ideas the best bet for controlling those would be to look at third party applications like SurfControl, Websense, etc.  Even these are not perfect and will not catch 100%.  They would however reduce the administrator overhead of manually creating the lists.  Another more important item would be a solid acceptable use policy.
